Our customer needed to
update their process. Over 60 pins were being pressed into 2
different rails on a machine designed and built 40 years ago.
To press each set of pins required a manual index by the
operator. The machine was requiring constant maintenance to keep
it running. Their intent also was to incorporate a new machine
as part of a manufacturing cell. The design was approved and the
manufacturing process began. The machine was to use pneumatics
under PLC control to automate this process. The goal was to
allow them to inspect the parts while the machine was running.
After several test runs in our plant, the machine required less
than the original cycle time estimates to complete each set of
rails. |
